Liberal bicycle commuter, political junkie, policy junkie, free thinker, I've got too many titles. All in all I'll leave it with a quote from the late Senator Paul Wellstone of Minn. "Politics is not about big money and power games, it's about the improvment of peoples lives."

You are saying people get maimed in Baghdad??

Last night I happened to watch the new documentary
Baghdad ER. Basically this was a documentary about the daily lives of American military troops working in the emergency room treating casualties of the war. I'll be the first to say that this was rather gruesome to see in parts but it certainly was not all about blood and gore. The documentary tried to convey to the viewer real life struggels of patients and the emergency room workers. While watching this I could not help but think that there are going to be a lot of really screwed up people coming out of this war both physically and mentally for the rest of their lives.

Personally I feel that watching something like this documentary is almost a responsibility of ours. As American citizens supporting the war or not we must see all aspects of this war even if it does not paint it in very good colors. We need to see many different aspects of war to be able to make an informed decision on future conflicts. My decision was made long ago regarding the Iraq war, I already knew that thousands of people if not killed were going to be living out the rest of their lives with horribly broken bodies. I myself am rather taken back with the cavalier attitude of Americans about Iraq. I honestly don't think that people understand what 17,000 injured Americans means. Do people understand that many of those 17,000 are burned up and wrecked young soldiers? "Yeah but they volunteered for it" You bet they did, but they did not volunteer for a military that would be used for ideological reasons.

Anyway, watch it on HBO, download it (bit torrent) or whatever, it's worth viewing and it will make you a more critical thinker.
